Peshawar: The Kurram district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, facing a surge in insecurity, saw the dispatch of another convoy of relief goods on the fourth consecutive day of security operations against miscreants in the area. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur chaired a high-level meeting to review the security situation in Kurram.
According to official sources a convoy comprising 60 to 65 vehicles loaded with essential supplies, including food items, vegetables, and medicines, has been dispatched to Parachinar. The official stated that the convoy is expected to reach Parachinar within a few hours.
This relief convoy is being sent amidst heightened security concerns following a January 16 attack on a 35-vehicle convoy heading to Kurram. Unknown assailants targeted the convoy in Baggan, torching seven vehicles, looting goods, and killing eight people, including two security personnel.
Following the attack, security forces, police, and Frontier Corps launched operations against the perpetrators in the region on January 19. These operations have entered their fourth day.
According to local sources a body, identified as a missing driver from the January 16 attack, has been recovered during the ongoing operations. Military and aerial operations continue in Central and Lower Kurram, with security forces claiming to have captured some areas and dismantled hideouts of miscreants. However, no official statements have been issued by the military or administration regarding the operations' outcomes.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur led a high-level meeting to assess Kurram’s security situation. It was decided that illegal fortifications in the region would be dismantled. Additionally, it was announced that four more relief convoys would be sent to Kurram by the end of the month.
A statement issued by the Chief Minister’s office highlighted plans to convene participants of the peace agreement previously negotiated in Kohat between Kurram factions. The meeting will review the agreement's implementation to ensure sustained peace in the region.
