Gaza: In a predawn strike on March 23, 2025, Israeli forces killed senior Hamas political leader Salah al-Bardawil and his wife while they were praying in their tent shelter in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
The Palestinian group claims that their martyrdom will fuel the “battle of liberation and independence” in the region.
The attack is part of a renewed offensive by Israel that has intensified since breaking the ceasefire with Hamas on Tuesday, with at least 634 Palestinians reported killed since then. Israeli forces have also issued evacuation orders for areas like Tal as-Sultan in Rafah, and heavy air attacks continue to hit densely populated neighborhoods, hospitals, schools, and mosques.
According to live reports from various international news agencies and statements by Palestinian groups, 23 people were killed in predawn raids on Sunday, highlighting the sharp escalation in violence.
Meanwhile, in Deir el-Balah, reporters described the situation as critical with “fierce and extensive air attacks” ongoing. The renewed conflict has deepened regional tensions and comes amid Israel’s ground operations aimed at forcing Hamas to release captives.
This development marks another significant incident in the long-standing conflict that began after the Hamas-led attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to a large-scale Israeli military response resulting in nearly 50,000 Palestinian casualties.
