SFDA, FSCJ Enhance Collaboration Food Safety and Regulatory Standards

Tokyo: The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) and the Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSCJ) have agreed to enhance collaboration on food safety and regulatory frameworks, following high-level discussions in Tokyo.

The SFDA’s CEO, Hisham S. Aljadhey, and FSCJ Chairperson, Shigeki Yamamoto, led the talks, which were attended by Saudi Arabia’s Ambassador to Japan, Ghazi bin Faisal bin Zaqr, and officials from both sides.

Discussions focused on strengthening regulatory mechanisms, global food sector challenges, and best practices for risk assessment. The SFDA and FSCJ also explored research collaborations to advance food safety standards.

The SFDA delegation is in Japan for the International Medical Device Regulators Forum (IMDRF) annual meeting, held from March 10-14, to foster global cooperation in food, medicine, and medical device safety, a key goal of Saudi Vision 2030’s Health Sector Transformation Program.

As an IMDRF member since September 2023, the SFDA also participated in the 27th Management Committee Meeting to discuss medical device regulation, innovation, and the IMDRF’s 2026-2030 strategy. The SFDA reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s commitment to international best practices and its focus on developing local industry and regulatory excellence.
