Sitaare Zameen Par Faces CBFC Cuts, Modi Quote Added

Mumbai: Aamir Khan’s upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, which will be released this Friday, has sparked controversy over the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) ’s censorship demands. Reports reveal that the board insisted on inserting a quote from Prime Minister Narendra Modi after the film’s opening disclaimer.

Although Aamir Khan reportedly resisted these changes, the CBFC’s Revising Committee, led by theatre expert Waman Kendre, enforced several edits to secure a U/A 13+ certificate for the film.

Changes included replacing “Michael Jackson” with “Lovebirds” and altering “Business Woman” to “Business Person.” The committee also required the removal of a visual featuring the word “kamal.”

Directed by RS Prasanna and co-starring Genelia Deshmukh, the film is described as a spiritual sequel to 2007’s Taare Zameen Par. Despite the censorship row, the movie has already generated strong buzz with Rs 1.55 crore in bookings and over 39,000 tickets sold nationwide.
