Spain Cancels $7.5M Ammunition Deal With Israeli Firm Amid Coalition Pressure

Jerusalem: Spain has cancelled a $7.5 million deal to buy ammunition from Israeli company IMI Systems, following internal political pressure and criticism over ties to Israel during its war on Gaza.

The decision came on Thursday after left-wing political group Sumar, a key partner in the country’s governing coalition, threatened to withdraw its support if the deal continued.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, along with top officials, intervened to stop the agreement after all negotiation routes were exhausted according to  Al Jazeera.

This move reflects Spain’s growing criticism of Israel’s actions in Gaza and aims to preserve unity within the country’s minority coalition government.

The stopped deal has sparked wider political discussion in Spain, where many are calling for a more consistent ethical stance on foreign military partnerships.
