A Syrian delegation, headed by newly appointed Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, arrived in Riyadh on Wednesday for its first official international visit, according to the Syrian state news agency SANA. Al Arabiya reported that Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Walid al-Khuraiji received the delegation, which included Syria’s Foreign Minister, Defense Minister, and Head of Intelligence.
In a post on the social media platform X, al-Shibani announced that he had been invited by Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, to visit the kingdom. This marks his first official trip abroad.
The delegation, which includes Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra, arrived just weeks after Bashar al-Assad was overthrown by opposition forces on December 8.
