Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court intervened over the environmental concerns that followed the lands at Kancha Gachibowli in Hyderabad. The court has prolonged the interim order to restrain any further tree cutting on the 400-acre plot.
The relief came after a hearing on an application-this one by the Vata Foundation-and another one by students of Hyderabad Central University (HCU) regarding trees' cutting.
The court that stayed for a day for the first time on 2nd April, proceeded with hearing and further stipulated that the stay would remain until or until the further orders or until the next date, set on 7th April. AG prayed for the deferment, a request that met with an affirmative order by the court to revisit this issue after one week.
The origin of the tree-felling case is the Kancha Gachibowli property and its 400-acre plot. It has been highly debatable due to fears about negative environmental impacts when it comes to the cutting down of trees.
The activists and student groups have objected vehemently to the disappearing green one among the myriad urban fast-developing localities. The court decision comes in the wake of mounting pressure on the government to achieve both development and conservation objectives.
Going forward in the subsequent hearings, the court will inquire into the legal and environmental impact the proposed development will have on the land.
