Dubai: A new survey has ranked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the second safest country in the world.
The 2025 Safety Index report by Numbeo gave the UAE an impressive Safety Index score of 84.5. However, the top spot went to Andorra, a small independent principality between France and Spain, with a score of 84.7.
Andorra, known for its peaceful environment and low crime rates, has no standing military and rarely experiences violent crime. While petty crimes like pickpocketing exist, the country remains one of the safest in the world. With a population of just over 85,000 and a strong economy, it attracts many tourists to its ski resorts and mountain landscapes.
The UAE has consistently ranked among the safest countries due to strict laws, strong policing, and advanced security measures, particularly in cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Other Middle Eastern countries also ranked high, with Qatar in third place, Taiwan in fourth, and Oman sharing the fifth spot with Qatar.
India ranked 66th in the index, three spots below Pakistan. Meanwhile, the UK dropped to 87th place, and the US remained at 89th. Despite ongoing conflict, Palestine ranked 61st, while Ukraine was 80th. Venezuela was listed as the least safe country.
The rankings highlight global trends in safety, with smaller nations often scoring higher due to low crime rates and political stability.
