Washington: Thousands of people took to the streets across the United States on Saturday to protest against the policies of President Donald Trump.
Protesters expressed concerns over the state of democracy and the rule of law, saying both are under threat.
One of the largest demonstrations occurred in New York, where demonstrators marched through the streets of Manhattan. Some voiced support for immigrants who have been deported, while others condemned proposed cuts to university budgets.
In San Francisco, protesters formed a human chain along the coastline, holding signs that read “Impeach and Remove.”
Earlier this month, hundreds of thousands of Americans also took part in what was one of the largest nationwide protests since Trump’s return to the political scene, with demonstrations held in 1,200 locations across all 50 states.
According to a new Gallup poll, 45% of voters approve of Trump’s performance during the first three months of his current term, which is slightly higher than the 41% recorded during the same period of his first term. However, this approval rating remains below the historical average of 60% for presidents during their first three months in office between 1952 and 2020.
Many demonstrators carried signs reading “No to Monarchy,” referencing the anniversary of the American Revolution against British rule.
