Tourists Return to Kashmir Following Atul Kulkarni’s Call for Solidarity After Pahalgam Attack

Srinagar, April 29, 2025 :In a heartening turn of events, tourists have started returning to Kashmir just days after veteran actor Atul Kulkarni’s visit to the valley in a show of solidarity following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam.

On April 22, a terror attack had shaken the region, resulting in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen. In the aftermath, tourism — a critical part of Kashmir’s economy — faced massive setbacks with nearly 90% of bookings canceled within days. However, Kulkarni’s spontaneous trip from Mumbai to Srinagar appears to have sparked a wave of support among Indians across the country.

Sharing images of nearly empty flights to Srinagar and messages from airline crews urging for solidarity, Kulkarni had urged his followers, “Let’s fill up these flights again. Let’s go to Kashmir. Kashmir is ours.” His heartfelt appeal quickly went viral, drawing attention from celebrities, influencers, and thousands of everyday travelers.

Responding to his call, travel agencies have reported a significant uptick in new bookings. Airlines have also confirmed a 40% rise in seat occupancy to Srinagar compared to just a week ago. Popular tourist spots like Pahalgam, Gulmarg, and Dal Lake are once again witnessing the return of visitors, many of whom say they came to support Kashmir’s people and their resilience.

Local business owners have expressed gratitude. “We had given up hope after the attack," said Faheem Ahmad, a hotelier in Pahalgam. "But seeing tourists back — it’s not just business, it’s a sign that we are not alone."

Meanwhile, authorities have increased security across tourist hubs to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors, while residents have welcomed guests with placards reading "We Condemn Terrorism" and "Welcome to Kashmir."

Speaking from Srinagar today, Kulkarni said, “This is the real spirit of India — not fear, but togetherness. I am humbled that so many people have taken this step.”

As the valley gradually heals, the growing footfall of tourists sends a clear message: the spirit of Kashmir remains unbroken.
