Tragic Bus Accident in Norway: 3 people lost their lives

A bus crash in Norway has left at least three people dead and several others injured. The accident happened around 1:30 p.m. local time in the snowy Hadsel district on Norway’s north-western coast.

The bus was carrying 58 passengers when it slid off the road and ended up partially in Åsvatnet Lake. Many of those on board were foreign nationals, according to local authorities. Rescue teams, including fire, ambulance, and police, quickly arrived at the scene, but the harsh weather made their work difficult.

Key Details:

  • Fatalities: Three people lost their lives.

  • Injuries: Four passengers were seriously hurt, with three airlifted to Stokmarknes Hospital.

  • Other passengers were taken to a nearby school for shelter and care.

The accident occurred on the E10 road, a major route connecting Narvik to the Lofoten archipelago. Heavy snowdrifts and strong winds in the area made driving conditions dangerous.

To support the victims, local officials set up a crisis team, and a hotel was allocated for family members as a reception center. The mayor of Vågan district, Vidar Thom Benjaminsen, emphasized the importance of helping those affected.

Rescue and Response:

  • The Norwegian Red Cross joined the operation, calling the accident a serious emergency.

  • Despite the challenges, all passengers were safely removed from the bus.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre expressed his condolences to the victims and their families, calling the accident “a very serious situation.”

This tragic event is a reminder of the dangers of winter travel in Norway’s harsh weather conditions, where safety precautions are critical.
