Kohat: A tribal jirga held in Kohat has successfully mediated between sectarian groups in Kurram, culminating in a historic peace agreement. Representatives from both sides signed the agreement, with an official announcement to be made at the Governor's House.
According to the agreement, a 16-member joint committee will be formed by both factions to oversee the disarmament process, handing over all weapons to the government and all bunkers in the Kurram region will be dismantled.
Blocked routes in Kurram will be reopened promptly to restore normalcy.
The Kurram region has recently witnessed severe sectarian violence, resulting in over 150 fatalities. Road blockades have exacerbated the crisis, causing shortages of medicine and food. Tragically, more than 175 individuals, including over 130 children, lost their lives due to these shortages.
The unrest also led to protests by religious groups in Karachi, severely disrupting daily life in the city.
