Trump Hosts White House Iftar, Acknowledges Muslim American Support in 2024 Election

Washington: President Donald Trump hosted an iftar dinner at the White House on Thursday, marking the first such event of his second term. During his remarks, he extended gratitude to Muslim Americans, recognizing their contributions to his 2024 election victory.

"As we observe the holy month of Ramadan, I want to take a moment to acknowledge our many Muslim friends, both here tonight and across the country," Trump said. He noted the significant support he received from the Muslim American community, particularly in key states like Michigan, and wished attendees "Ramadan Mubarak."

The president also used the occasion to reiterate his administration's commitment to peace in the Middle East. He highlighted the achievements of the Abraham Accords, agreements brokered during his first term that normalized ties between Israel and multiple Muslim-majority nations. "We are fulfilling our promises to the Muslim community and working toward lasting peace in the region," he stated. Trump further pledged to expand the accords and continue diplomatic efforts.

Amid ongoing conflict in Gaza, Trump emphasized his administration’s position, standing firmly with Israel while proposing a controversial plan to oversee Gaza's redevelopment. His remarks followed the recent escalation of violence, with Israel renewing its military operations in the region earlier this month.

The iftar dinner was attended by around 60 guests, though it remains unclear how many were from the Muslim community. Among those present were several of Trump’s political allies, including Senator Lindsey Graham, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.

This is not the first time that Trump has hosted an Iftar for Muslims; during his previous tenure, he also organized such gatherings. Furthermore, this year, at the beginning of Ramadan, Trump extended his greetings to all Muslims on the occasion of Ramadan.
