Turkey Will Not Allow Terrorists to Operate on Its Soil: Foreign Minister

ANKARA: Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu stated on Sunday that Turkey will not allow terrorists to carry out operations on its territory. The remarks were made during a phone call with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, according to Turkish diplomatic sources. Çavuşoğlu emphasized that Turkey will continue to safeguard its security and address the threat posed by terrorists who endanger both the country's citizens and those in Syria.

Turkey considers the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) a terrorist organization and has long opposed the Syrian Kurdish group, the People's Defense Units (YPG), labeling it a terrorist organization as well. Turkish authorities have attributed numerous terrorist attacks to Kurdish groups operating within the country. Additionally, Turkey designates the group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which is linked to al-Qaeda, as a terrorist organization. During the call, Minister Çavuşoğlu urged the United States to work towards restoring peace between the Syrian government and opposition forces, stressing that international efforts should focus on achieving lasting peace in Syria.
