DUBAI: The UAE’s National MMA Championship 3 kicked off on Saturday at Shabab Al-Ahli Club in Dubai, drawing a large crowd and showcasing promising young talent from across the country.
Organized by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the event began with matches in the Youth D (10–11), Youth C (12–13), and Youth B (14–15) categories. The tournament concludes Sunday with Youth A (16–17) and Adult (18+) competitions.
Mohamed Salem Al-Dhaheri, federation vice chairman, praised the strong performances and growing youth participation, calling it a reflection of the federation’s successful talent development efforts.
He also highlighted the event’s organization and public engagement as indicators of MMA’s rising popularity in the UAE.
Zakaria Bichi, coach at Primal Gym Abu Dhabi, said his athletes' success earning several gold medals came from rigorous preparation and dedication.
He called the championship a vital stepping stone in young fighters' careers.
Parents also voiced their support. Suhair Almarzooqi, whose 14-year-old son competed, emphasized the sport's role in building character, discipline, and confidence, and thanked the federation for providing a nurturing platform.
Gold medalist Hamda Ali Khalfan Almutwa of Shabab Al-Ahli Dubai shared her joy, saying the win was a dream come true and a motivation to keep training.
She expressed hope of inspiring other girls to follow in her footsteps.
