UAE Rejects Legitimacy of Port Sudan Authority’s Recent Decision

ABU DHABI: The United Arab Emirates has stated it does not recognise the recent decision announced by the Port Sudan Authority, asserting that the entity does not represent the legitimate government of Sudan or its people.

In an official statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), the UAE dismissed the declaration made by the so-called Security and Defence Council of the Port Sudan Authority, which announced a severance of diplomatic ties with the UAE.

The ministry described the move as a reactionary step following the International Court of Justice’s dismissal of a case filed by the Port Sudan Authority.

The UAE criticised the statements made by the Port Sudan Authority as inflammatory and aimed at derailing ongoing peace efforts.

It reiterated that Sudan deserves a civilian-led government free from military dominance, one that prioritises the welfare of its citizens rather than causing suffering through conflict and displacement.

Despite the recent developments, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to the people of Sudan, particularly the large Sudanese community residing in the Emirates, who, according to MoFA, will not be impacted by the Port Sudan Authority’s decision.

The UAE also highlighted its longstanding support for Sudan over the past five decades and pledged continued solidarity with the Sudanese people.
