UN Security Council Strongly Condemns Attack on Jaffar Express in Pakistan

New York: The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on the Jaffar Express passenger train in Pakistan.

In a press statement, UNSC members expressed their deep condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims, as well as to the government and people of Pakistan.

The Council members extended their best wishes for the speedy and full recovery of those injured in the attack. The statement, issued by the spokesperson of Pakistan’s Foreign Office on Friday, highlighted that all forms of terrorism pose a serious threat to international peace and security.

The UNSC members emphasized the need to hold the perpetrators, organizers, and financial supporters of these terrorist acts accountable and bring them to justice. They urged all states to cooperate actively with the Pakistani government in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions.

Reaffirming their stance, the statement declared that any act of terrorism, regardless of its motivation, location, or perpetrator, is criminal and unjustifiable. The members stressed the importance of combating threats to international peace and security posed by terrorist activities in full compliance with international law, including human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law under the UN Charter.

Meanwhile, in a joint press conference on Friday, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti and Pakistan Army spokesperson Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry stated that 354 passengers were rescued during the security operation following the attack.
