Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) has made a strong appeal for the lifting of the Israeli siege on Gaza, warning of a severe humanitarian disaster.
In a statement posted on X, UNRWA described the desperate conditions facing Palestinians, trapped in what they called "a cycle of deadly violence and deprivation.
According to the agency, since March 2, Israeli authorities have completely blocked humanitarian aid and commercial supplies from entering the Gaza Strip. This blockade has severely impacted access to food, water, medical supplies, and other essentials for the civilian population.
UNRWA highlighted that the situation has worsened dramatically since the collapse of the ceasefire agreement last month. Intense military activities and hostilities have escalated across Gaza, leading to the deaths and injuries of hundreds of civilians, many of them women and children.
The agency stressed that the lack of access to basic necessities is putting the lives of innocent civilians at extreme risk. They warned that without immediate action to allow humanitarian assistance and commercial goods, the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza will deepen even further.
The background of this crisis lies in the long-standing tensions between Israel and Palestinian factions in Gaza. The situation escalated after the ceasefire broke down, leading to intensified violence and a tightening siege. UNRWA and other international organizations have repeatedly called for an end to the blockade to protect civilian lives and allow urgent humanitarian operations to proceed.
