Washington: On 28 May 2025, US President Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff announced optimism about reaching a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas within days if both sides make concessions. Witkoff, who has been negotiating with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, adviser Ron Dermer, and Hamas leaders in Doha through Palestinian-American businessman Bishara Bahbah, revealed he had drafted a new ceasefire “term sheet” awaiting Trump’s approval.
Hamas confirmed that it had reached a general framework agreement with Witkoff, which includes a permanent ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and the unhindered entry of humanitarian aid.
