U.S. Rejects Request to Reopen Embassy in Kabul

Washington: The United States has declined the interim Afghan government's appeal to reopen the U.S. embassy in Kabul and to hand over the Afghan diplomatic mission in Washington to the Islamic Emirate.

In a statement published by the Washington Examiner, a spokesperson for the U.S. State Department reaffirmed Washington's stance, saying, “The United States does not recognize any entity as the government of Afghanistan and therefore has no plans to allow for the reopening of its embassy.”

Separately, U.S. National Security Council spokesperson James Hewitt emphasized that no agreements have been made regarding the Afghan Embassy in Washington, nor are there any ongoing talks about the status of the U.S. Embassy facility in Kabul.

“We have made no commitments regarding the Afghan Embassy in Washington, and there are no discussions underway concerning the status of the U.S. Embassy compound in Kabul,” Hewitt clarified.

The U.S. rejection follows claims by a spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, who said the topics of the embassy reopening and diplomatic representation in Washington had been discussed with a visiting U.S. delegation in Kabul, and that a response was awaited.

Despite these assertions, Washington has made it clear that its diplomatic posture toward the Taliban-led government remains unchanged.
