President Trump afresh stirred up drama by saying that USAID was sending $21 million to India for boosting voters, calling it a “kickback deal.” While talking with governors on Thursday, he showed anger about money spent abroad, especially in India. He said, "What do I care? We have our own issues." Trump added that cash given back went to those who sent it but shared no proof for his claims.
His words sparked debates politically in the US and in India. In India, members of BJP took this chance to hit at Congress and Rahul Gandhi. BJP figures like Amit Malviya and Pradeep Bhandari stated that the funding might support "deep-state" groups there and blamed Congress for gaining from this money. They called for an investigation into if Congress or Gandhi were part of any "kickback deal."
On the other hand, Congress rejected these claims and asked for an inquiry into how USAID funds were used in their nation. This dispute comes as BJP and Congress are already clashing ahead of the 2024 elections. The issue gets worse as people talk about financier George Soros plus cuts leading to loss of USAID funds elsewhere.
