Barcelona’s Pedro Soma Leaves Reserve Squad After Tough Relegation Blow

Barcelona: Another departure from Barça Atletic is confirmed, with midfielder Pedro Soma set to leave the reserve this summer. According to SPORT, FC Barcelona has decided not to activate the purchase option for Soma’s federative rights, paving the way for his return to his former club UE Cornellà. The decision comes after Barça Atletic’s recent relegation, which has triggered significant changes within the club’s academy and reserve setup.

Soma, a U.S. youth international, made 28 appearances in the Primera RFEF this season and earned praise for his composure and work rate in midfield.

He was a key player under both coaches during the campaign, especially impressing during the late-season revival led by Sergi Milà. Despite his strong performances, the club’s reshuffling strategy after relegation has meant the end of his stint in Barcelona’s ranks.

His return to Cornellà marks a full-circle moment, having already played for their senior team before joining Barça. However, his next move remains open, with interest reportedly coming from clubs in Spain, England, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Soma is expected to evaluate his options before finalizing his future.

Barça Atletic, meanwhile, is preparing for a significant rebuild. With several players departing, the focus will now be on promoting talent from Juvenil A. These young prospects are expected to take on more prominent roles as the team looks to recover and restructure.

The summer promises to be a heavy transition as the club reshapes its reserve side following relegation and gears up for a long-term developmental overhaul.
