Islamabad: Federal Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, calling it a positive development and a significant diplomatic milestone.
Speaking to journalists in the National Assembly, he praised Iran for defending itself “courageously and effectively” against a much stronger adversary.
"I pay tribute to the Iranian people and government for the way they stood firm and responded with strength," said Asif, commending Tehran's resistance during the 12-day conflict.
Highlighting broader implications, Khawaja Asif said that the Muslim world had witnessed “two victories in recent days,” without elaborating on the second. He referred to these as twin triumphs for the Islamic world and expressed hope that peace would soon prevail in Gaza as well. “Now we pray that Allah has mercy on the Muslims of Gaza,” he added.
The comments came after both Iran and Israel agreed to a ceasefire, ending nearly two weeks of intense and bloody hostilities.
Earlier, Pakistan had strongly condemned Israeli aggression against Iran. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the Israeli strikes as a violation of international law and an attack on Iran’s sovereignty.
