New Delhi: On International Yoga Day 2025, experts are highlighting the powerful role yoga can play in managing Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), a chronic hormonal disorder affecting up to 13% of reproductive-age women globally.
The World Health Organization states that nearly 70% of cases remain undiagnosed. Samiksha Shetty, founder of Rising Loka, told HT Lifestyle that yoga helps regulate hormones, reduce insulin resistance, and ease menstrual issues.
She emphasized that, unlike high-intensity workouts, yoga operates on a cellular level to reduce cortisol and support emotional well-being. She recommends calming daily routines and pranayama practices like alternate nostril breathing, bhramari, and kapalbhati.
For physical relief, she suggests eight yoga poses: vyaghra shwasa, malasana, parivrtta trikonasana, baddha konasana, dhanurasana, setu bandhasana, balasana, and shavasana. Each asana supports hormonal balance, digestion, and emotional release. Experts urge women to approach yoga gently and consistently for long-term PCOS relief and overall wellness.
