Dubai: Dubai Municipality intensified the inspections of food establishments all over the city to ensure public health and food safety during Ramadan.

The civic body is stepping up ground-checking of restaurants, malls, cafes, bakeries, food warehouses and shops. The move is to ensure that all food storage and handling activities follow the highest health and safety guidelines for the whole month. The inspections were launched across major commercial regions in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The initiative was announced on Tuesday by Dubai Municipality in an official statement, backed up by Dr. Naseem Mohammed Rafee, acting CEO of the Environment, Health and Safety Agency at Dubai Municipality.

In coordination with other sister authorities, such as the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority and the Ministry of Economy, Dubai Municipality has set up dedicated teams to inspect a large number of establishments. These inspections apply to many types of facilities, such as markets, hypermarkets, accommodations of tour managers, hotels, visitation sites, gaming precincts, and labour accommodations. Over 100 licensed entities also got permits to spread out iftar tents and outdoor events.

The municipality  also enhanced food safety control measures at ports of entry working on sampling of goods considered high consumption for the period of Ramadan to guarantee their quality and safety. In addition to these inspections, schooling campaigns and educational workshops have been instituted, targeting right food storage, preparation techniques, garbage lessening, meat having a quality position, and working safety.

Authorities are also closely examining imported consumer goods such as tobacco, perfumes, and incense to make sure they comply with Dubai regulatory requirements. The municipality has raised operational preparedness at populated high-traffic areas such as rounds of livestock markets and overseas quarantine zones, and used to intensify pest control operations at Ramadan tent sites.
