First Day of OIC Conference on Girls' Education Concluded in Islamabad

Islamabad: The first day of the two-day OIC conference on the topic of girls' education and opportunities in the Muslim world concluded in Islamabad.

The conference saw the participation of 150 representatives from 47 countries, including Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, a strong advocate for girls' education. The attendees included scholars, religious leaders, experts, and human rights activists.

In the opening address, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the challenges faced by girls in Muslim countries, including Pakistan, in accessing education and opportunities. He pointed out that women make up half of Pakistan's population, yet the female literacy rate remains a disappointing 47%. He called for immediate action to provide women with education and other opportunities.

Notably, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, a key player on the subject, declined to attend the conference.

The participants engaged in detailed discussions on the challenges women face in accessing education and other opportunities.
