Israel Faces Shortage of Interceptors Amid Rising Threat from Iranian Missiles

Jerusalem: As Israel continues to fend off waves of missile attacks from Iran, a new concern is emerging behind the scenes—its supply of long-range missile interceptors is running dangerously low. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, Israel is experiencing a shortage of Arrow defensive interceptors, crucial for neutralizing Iranian ballistic missiles that threaten cities and military infrastructure.

An anonymous US official, cited by the Journal, confirmed that Washington has been aware of this munitions shortfall for several months. In response, the United States has been quietly reinforcing Israel’s defense network with additional missile systems deployed across land, sea, and air platforms. These reinforcements aim to fill the gaps left by dwindling Israeli reserves, but the strain is raising alarms about how long the current pace of conflict can be sustained.

While the Israeli military has declined to comment officially on “matters related to munitions,” the report adds new urgency to concerns about Israel’s ability to defend itself should missile barrages from Iran intensify further. The Arrow system, designed to intercept high-altitude, long-range threats, plays a central role in Israel's multilayered defense architecture. Any compromise in its availability could expose major vulnerabilities.

This revelation comes as Israel is locked in an unprecedented direct exchange of fire with Iran, involving hypersonic missile threats and repeated air raids. The use of Iran’s Fattah missiles—believed to be capable of traveling at extremely high speeds—has further complicated defense efforts, and Israel's reliance on advanced systems like Arrow has never been more critical.

The shortage also underscores the deeper strategic pressure on Israel’s military readiness, as it confronts multiple fronts—from Gaza to Tehran—with limited resources. With US support bolstering defensive capabilities for now, the long-term question remains whether Israel can maintain operational resilience if the current pace of conflict continues unchecked.
