Gaza: Israeli fighter jets have killed Hamas spokesperson Abdel-Latif al-Qanoua in an airstrike on his tent shelter in Jabalia, northern Gaza. The attack, confirmed by Al-Aqsa television and the Shehab News Agency, is part of Israel’s ongoing military offensive in the enclave.
According to reports, the strike injured several others, including children. The Israeli military also carried out attacks on other locations, including a home in Gaza City’s as-Saftawi area, where six members of the same family were killed.
Since resuming its military operations on March 18, Israel has intensified its bombardment, killing hundreds of Palestinian civilians. The renewed assault aims to pressure Hamas into releasing the remaining captives taken during the October 7, 2023, attack.
In recent days, Israel has killed several senior Hamas officials. On Sunday, an airstrike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis killed Ismail Barhoum, a key Hamas financial leader. That same day, Salah al-Bardaweel, a senior Hamas political figure, was also killed in a separate strike targeting displaced Palestinians.
Hamas still holds 59 of the approximately 250 captives taken during its attack on Israel. So far, the conflict has resulted in over 50,000 Palestinian deaths, with more than 113,000 wounded, according to Gaza’s Ministry of Health.
The humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate, with the United Nations reporting that 142,000 Palestinians have been forcibly displaced since March 18. Ceasefire negotiations remain stalled, with Hamas accusing Israel of obstructing peace efforts, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the offensive unless Hamas releases the captives.
