Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) made headlines by securing star all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer for a staggering INR 23.75 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auction. The deal makes Iyer the third-most expensive buy in IPL history, following Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, who also broke records this year. According to media reports, KKR's CEO Venky Mysore expressed satisfaction with the purchase, emphasizing the franchise's focus on retaining its core players. KKR successfully retained key players like Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh, while also reacquiring fast bowler Anrich Nortje for INR 6.50 crore.

"Our priority was to keep our core intact," Mysore said. "Auctions are always unpredictable, but it's about securing the players who align with the team's vision. With an increased salary cap of INR 120 crore, prices have naturally risen, and we've managed to balance our squad with strategic buys like Quinton de Kock and Nortje." Iyer, who played a pivotal role in KKR's championship-winning campaign, expressed his excitement about rejoining the team. "To be honest, I'm at a loss for words, but I'm elated to be part of KKR again," Iyer said. "This shows the franchise's commitment to winning championships and player development.

When asked about the possibility of leading KKR, Iyer welcomed the challenge, saying, "If given the responsibility, I would be more than happy to take it on. Leadership is about creating an environment where every player feels valued."

The IPL 2025 auction, which was broadcast live, saw unprecedented bidding wars, with multiple players surpassing the INR 20 crore mark. The record-breaking deals reflect the growing competition and financial clout of IPL franchises as they prepare for another high-octane season.
