Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering solidarity” with Iran during a telephonic conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, recognizing Iran’s right to self-defense in the wake of recent regional developments.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office, PM Shehbaz strongly condemned the recent U.S. strikes, which he described as a response to Israel’s "unjust and unprovoked aggression" over the past eight days.
During the conversation, the Prime Minister expressed grave concern over the targeting of facilities under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), calling the strikes a serious violation of international law and IAEA regulations.
President Pezeshkian thanked Pakistan for its principled stance and expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown by the Pakistani leadership, including the military, as well as the government and people of Pakistan.
Both leaders underscored the urgent need for unity in the Muslim world amid rising tensions and agreed to maintain close contact in the days ahead.
Extending condolences over the loss of lives in recent attacks on Iran, PM Shehbaz expressed deep sorrow and offered prayers for the swift recovery of the injured. He reaffirmed that the people and government of Pakistan stand firmly with Iran in this difficult time.
Emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, the Prime Minister stated that peaceful engagement remains the only viable path forward. He also called for immediate and collective efforts to de-escalate tensions and reiterated Pakistan’s readiness to play a constructive role in this regard.
