After being sworn in as Delhi's CM on Thursday, Gupta quickly reacted to remarks made by former CM Atishi of AAP and others. On just her first day in office, she defended early decisions of her administration, especially highlighting the approval of Ayushman Bharat Yojana—a major health program that AAP had previously stalled. She pointedly asked how both AAP that ruled for 13 years and Congress which controlled for 15 years could raise worries after only one day of her governance.
While speaking with reporters on Friday, Gupta spoke about swift actions by her cabinet including the endorsement of Ayushman Bharat Yojana aimed at giving health coverage up to Rs 10 lakhs for Delhi’s residents. She firmly noted, "We will focus on Delhi now," mentioning that under her guidance and support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, benefits would reach Delhi rightfully. She also brushed off claims from AAP about misleading voters in Delhi stating they had kept promises with immediate action taken during their initial cabinet meeting.
The back-and-forth continued as Gupta responded to allegations from AAP regarding unmet pre-election commitments concerning a Rs 2,500 cash transfer promised to women voters—an important voting block during BJP's Feb 5 election win. In response, Gupta questioned what AAP achieved historically while asserting citizens of Delhi would witness positive change under her leadership focusing strongly on addressing their needs and rights. This controversy highlights growing political tension as the new BJP government begins its term.
