Riyadh: Riyadh launched the promotional tour for boxing’s “Fight of the Century” on Friday, as Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford shared the stage at a press event in Boulevard City. The two champions are set to clash on September 13 in Las Vegas for the unified super-middleweight title and a specially designed Ring Magazine belt worth $188,000.
Alvarez, the reigning undisputed champion with 62 wins (39 by knockout), called Crawford “a great fighter, but he’s not Canelo. “This fight may be one of the best in his career. Crawford, a four-division world champion with 41 wins and 31 knockouts, declared it his moment and vowed not to let it slip away.
The press conference also marked Saudi Arabia’s growing presence in global boxing. Turki Alalshikh, head of the General Entertainment Authority, highlighted the Kingdom’s partnership with Netflix to stream the fight worldwide.
The event is part of Riyadh Season and reflects Saudi Arabia’s ongoing efforts to boost local sports infrastructure. The tour continues in New York on June 22 and Las Vegas on June 27.
