RIYADH: The Saudi Entertainment and Amusement Expo kicked off in Riyadh this week, drawing attention with some of the most unique and futuristic attractions from around the world.
With 350 international exhibitors and thousands of visitors expected over its three-day run, the event reflects the Kingdom’s growing focus on entertainment, technology, and economic diversification.
One of the standout innovations at the expo is a hologram zoo developed by Australian firm Axiom Holographics.
The display, which made Time magazine’s list of top technologies for 2023, allows people to experience lifelike holographic animals in immersive environments.
Brendan Hodgkins, the company’s global sales manager, said the technology has already proven successful during trial runs, attracting 25,000 visitors in just six weeks and generating more than $550,000 in revenue.
He added that over 40 units have been sold globally and expressed the company's eagerness to enter the Saudi market to help shape its entertainment future.
Another attention-grabbing feature at the expo is a 20-meter tall inflatable purple ogre, designed by Anka Inflatable Co. from Guangzhou, China.
The massive structure, suitable for theme parks and large venues, drew crowds due to its size and colorful design.
A representative from the company, explained that the inflatable can be customized in different shapes and its outer layer can be changed every few years.
Its collapsible design also makes it easy to move and store. John noted the strong business ties between China and Saudi Arabia and said the Kingdom presents an exciting market for expansion.
In addition to showcasing creative products, the expo is also being used as a platform to encourage young Saudis to join the entertainment industry.
The Saudi Entertainment Academy promoted its training programs, which are designed to connect students with future job opportunities in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
Sultan bin Jumaiah, a sales specialist at the academy, explained that the goal is to equip students with professional skills through diploma programs, helping them secure employment in the rapidly growing sector.
This event reflects the Kingdom’s broader goals under Vision 2030 to diversify the economy beyond oil and to create meaningful job opportunities for citizens, especially in sectors like tourism, entertainment, and technology.
With global exhibitors, high-tech displays, and professional training efforts, the Saudi Entertainment and Amusement Expo highlights both innovation and ambition in the heart of the Middle East.
