Sharjah is set to welcome the return of Relay for Life (RFL) on January 25–26, hosted at the American University of Sharjah. This globally recognized event aims to raise funds for cancer patients, honor survivors, and promote awareness through community engagement.
A Worthy Cause
Organized by Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) in collaboration with the American Cancer Society, the event embraces the theme ‘Worth Living’. Since its inception in the United States in 1985, RFL has become a worldwide initiative, introduced to the Middle East in 2017 under the patronage of Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the wife of Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
A Decade of Impact
Aisha Al Mulla, Director of FOCP, highlighted the initiative’s impact, stating, “RFL embodies FOCP’s commitment to easing the financial and emotional burdens of cancer patients while fostering a supportive and aware community. Since 2017, we’ve celebrated over 500 resilient cancer survivors and engaged more than 10,000 participants, including 1,500 dedicated volunteers.”
How to Join
Participation is free and open to all via joinrfl.focp.ae. Funds raised will contribute to treatment journeys, moral support programs, and early detection initiatives. Donations can also be made year-round through FOCP’s website at focp.ae/donate.
