The United Arab Emirates has announced a significant change to its traffic regulations, lowering the minimum age for drivers. According to Emirati media, the new federal decree will come into effect on March 29, 2025.
In an advisory from the UAE Government Media Office, it was revealed that individuals aged 17 will now be permitted to obtain a driving license. Previously, the minimum age to drive cars and light vehicles was set at 18.
Additionally, the new regulations will impose restrictions on noisy vehicles, prohibiting their operation within the country. The use of car horns will also be limited to situations involving emergencies or accident avoidance in urban areas.
The updated rules will prevent pedestrians from crossing roads with speed limits exceeding 80 kilometers per hour. Officials clarified that those who fail to comply with these regulations will face civil or criminal penalties.
