Ukraine’s UK Ambassador Criticizes US for Undermining Global Order

London: Ukraine’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, has issued a sharp critique of the United States, accusing Washington of dismantling the existing world order.

His remarks come at a sensitive time, as Ukraine seeks to mend relations with the US following a tense and unproductive meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump at the White House.

Zaluzhnyi, a former commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces who transitioned into diplomacy after being dismissed last year, suggested that the US is no longer maintaining Western unity. Speaking at a discussion hosted by Chatham House in London, he warned that the Trump administration's engagement with Russia could have dire consequences for Europe.

“It is not only Russia and its allies attempting to reshape the world order—the United States is actively dismantling it,” Zaluzhnyi stated. He went on to express concerns over Washington’s shift in security policy, arguing that the US is attempting to offload security responsibilities onto Europe while stepping back from direct involvement.

His comments highlight growing concerns among European nations about the reliability of US support in the face of Russian aggression. Zaluzhnyi even questioned NATO’s long-term survival, warning that the alliance could soon cease to exist if current trends continue.

His remarks come in the wake of a significant diplomatic fallout between Kyiv and Washington. The contentious White House meeting reportedly ended with Zelensky being abruptly dismissed from the Oval Office, after which the US suspended military aid and halted intelligence-sharing with Ukraine.

In an effort to repair the damage, Zelensky has since acknowledged that the meeting did not go as expected, calling the situation “regrettable” and reaffirming Ukraine’s willingness to engage in negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, European leaders have convened in Brussels for an emergency summit, where they have reiterated their commitment to supporting Ukraine. With US foreign policy shifting, Europe is now working to strengthen its own defense capabilities while seeking a greater role in diplomatic efforts to end the war.
