20 Islamic Countries, Including Saudi Arabia, Warn of Regional Security Threats

CAIRO: Twenty Arab and Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, issued a joint statement strongly condemning and rejecting the Israeli attacks on Iran, warning of the grave consequences such escalation poses to regional security and stability.

Released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, the statement was endorsed by the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Bahrain, Brunei Darussalam, Turkey, Chad, Algeria, Comoros, Djibouti, Sudan, Somalia, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Libya, and Mauritania.

The ministers called for immediate de-escalation and a ceasefire, stressing the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, in line with international law and the principles of the UN Charter.

They condemned the Israeli strikes launched on June 13 and rejected any actions that violate the principles of good neighborliness or international norms. The statement also reiterated support for making the Middle East a region free of nuclear and other weapons of mass destruction.

The signatories urged all countries to join the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and condemned attacks on nuclear facilities under International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) safeguards, describing such acts as clear violations of international law and the 1949 Geneva Convention.

The ministers called for the swift resumption of negotiations as the only viable path to a sustainable agreement on Iran’s nuclear program. They also stressed the importance of upholding maritime security and freedom of navigation in accordance with international law.

The statement concluded by affirming that diplomatic dialogue remains the only effective means to resolve regional tensions and that military actions will not bring lasting solutions.
