Gaza: Nearly 60,000 children in Gaza are now showing clear signs of malnutrition as a result of Israel’s ongoing blockade, which has severely restricted the entry of food and medical supplies into the enclave for almost two months, according to Gaza Health Ministry.
The blockade, imposed by the Israeli military on March 2, 2025, was intended as a means of pressuring Hamas to release remaining captives. The situation escalated when Israel resumed its offensive on Gaza on March 18. Since the start of the blockade, all 25 UN-operated bakeries, critical for providing bread to civilians, have been shut down.
Aid agencies are sounding the alarm over an impending humanitarian catastrophe, citing mass starvation and the risk of disease outbreaks. Philippe Lazzarini, the head of UNRWA, condemned the ongoing siege as a form of collective punishment against Gaza’s population and called urgently for the lifting of the blockade, the resumption of the ceasefire, and the delivery of humanitarian aid.
