Kabul: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the deputy prime minister for economic affairs, has called on the global community to abandon pressure tactics and instead foster constructive engagement with Afghanistan’s caretaker government.
Speaking at an event in Kabul, Baradar emphasized that economic and political pressure does not lead to meaningful cooperation but rather creates divisions among nations.
“I urge all countries to stop exerting economic and political pressure on Afghanistan. Such tactics have never led to positive outcomes. History has shown that pressure does not promote engagement but rather widens the gap between nations,” Baradar stated.
He further highlighted that Afghanistan’s caretaker government has been gradually expanding its political and economic ties with various countries. However, despite these developments, formal recognition from the international community remains pending.
Western nations and other global powers have set conditions for normalizing relations with the Islamic Emirate, including human rights considerations, the establishment of an inclusive government, and adherence to commitments outlined in the Doha Agreement.
Over the past three years, the Islamic Emirate has strengthened ties with regional and neighboring countries, with some accepting its ambassadors. However, no nation has yet granted formal recognition to Afghanistan’s caretaker administration.
