Big Medical Changes Coming to UAE: Artificial Heart & New Diabetes Treatment

At Arab Health 2025 in Dubai, Emirates Health Services (EHS) shared amazing new medical projects to help people with heart problems and diabetes.

A New Artificial Heart

EHS is working with the Texas Heart Institute to bring the Total Artificial Heart (TAH) to the UAE. This special heart is made of titanium and uses magnetic levitation so it lasts longer and works better than older artificial hearts. It helps people with serious heart problems while they wait for a heart transplant.

Right now, tests are happening in the US and Australia, and soon, the UAE will start testing too. Once it gets approval, the UAE will be the first country in the Middle East to use this new heart!

New Diabetes Treatment

EHS is also working with the University of Chicago on a new way to help type 1 diabetes patients. Doctors will move pancreatic cells into the liver using a small tube. This could help people avoid insulin and have fewer health problems.

This treatment has already been approved in the US and has shown great results in tests. Soon, it will be available in the UAE.

Better Health for the Future

Dr. Essam Al Zarooni from EHS said these new treatments will help many people live healthier lives. They are part of the UAE’s National Strategy for Wellbeing 2031, which aims to give better healthcare to everyone.
