Canada has denied allegations that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was involved in violent plots against Sikh separatists on Canadian soil. This follows a report by the Globe and Mail newspaper suggesting that Canadian security agencies believed Modi was aware of violent campaigns targeting Sikh separatists, including the 2023 murder of Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

The Canadian foreign ministry previously accused Indian Home Minister Amit Shah of orchestrating a campaign of intimidation in Canada, with evidence allegedly linking Indian government agents to Nijjar's death. However, Nathalie Drouin, intelligence adviser to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, issued a denial on Thursday, stating that Canada has no evidence connecting Modi, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, or National Security Adviser Ajit Doval to any criminal activities within the country.

India has strongly rejected the accusations, denying any involvement in the killing of Nijjar, and refutes claims that its agents targeted Sikh separatists on Canadian soil. Canada, home to the largest Sikh diaspora outside of Punjab, has seen ongoing tensions with India over support for Sikh separatist movements, with India labeling these groups as "terrorists" posing a threat to its security.
