Moscow: Russia and Iran have agreed to continue their unconditional support for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The agreement came during a phone conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, where they discussed the situation in Syria and aligned on a joint strategy.

According to Kremlin spokespersons, the two leaders emphasized their commitment to supporting Syria’s legitimate government, ensuring constitutional governance, and upholding the nation’s sovereignty. Both reiterated their unwavering backing for Assad, a stance they have maintained since the outbreak of Syria's civil war in 2011. The Kremlin's statement also highlighted plans for consultations with Turkey to ensure a broader regional approach to the Syrian crisis. The coordination aims to address recent developments, including the opposition's offensive in Aleppo, which reports suggest may have led to a loss of control in parts of the city by Assad's government.

Iran, a key ally of Assad, confirmed it would maintain military advisors in Syria to assist in ongoing operations, reaffirming its commitment to supporting the Assad regime. The announcement follows Assad's assertion that his allies remain steadfast in countering opposition aggression. Both Russia and Iran's continued support underscores their strategic alliance with Assad, despite escalating regional complexities.
