Mexico: AEW TBS Champion Mercedes Moné made history Wednesday night by defeating Zeuxis to win the CMLL World Women’s Championship at “AEW Grand Slam: Mexico” in Arena Mexico.
The high-energy match saw Moné withstand a fierce onslaught from Zeuxis, who nearly scored a win with a brutal Lungblower. But Moné turned the tide with a Springboard Meteora and sealed the victory by reversing a Powerslam into a mid-air crossbody for the pin.
Her celebration was short-lived as rival “Timeless” Toni Storm ambushed her post-match. Storm, joined by Mina Shirakawa, delivered a German Suplex and attempted a Storm Zero before AEW officials intervened.
Moné fled the scene, but Storm left a chilling message: “Let the games begin!” The two are set to clash for the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In: Texas on July 12. If she wins, Moné will hold four major titles across AEW, CMLL, RevPro, and EWA.
