Congo Virus Kills One in Sindh, Two Cases Found in KP

Karachi: Sindh has reported its first Congo virus case of 2025, with a 42-year-old man from Karachi’s Malir district succumbing to the deadly Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever (CCHF). The Sindh health department confirmed the man tested positive on June 16 and passed away the following day.

The Congo virus, primarily transmitted through ticks found on livestock, is highly contagious and can be fatal in nearly half of all cases.

Meanwhile, two additional CCHF cases have been confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Karak district. The patients are under treatment in Peshawar and reported to be in stable condition.

CCHF symptoms often begin suddenly, including high fever, headache, body pain, vomiting, and rashes. Health authorities have urged caution, especially among individuals who handle livestock, as Eid-ul-Adha approaches — a time when exposure to cattle significantly increases.
