Debate Heats Up as Deepika Padukone Seeks Fixed 8-Hour Shoot

Mumbai: Deepika Padukone’s reported demand for a strict 8-hour workday on the set of Spirit has triggered a heated industry discussion, with fellow actresses Genelia Deshmukh and Chitrangda Singh weighing in.

Deepika recently exited the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial and allegedly wanted a fixed work schedule, six hours for shooting and two for prep or travel. While some speculated her departure stemmed from discomfort with bold scenes, industry buzz suggests scheduling was the real issue.

Promoting her upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, Genelia told Zoom, “It’s tough, but not impossible. Sometimes 10 to 12-hour days happen, and we adjust.” Chitrangda Singh, currently working on Housefull 5, offered a balanced view.

She said that flexibility depends on a director-actor’s understanding and logistical constraints. On Deepika’s decision, Chitrangda remarked, “It’s her privilege to make that choice.”

The Spirit team has since cast Animal star Triptii Dimri in the lead role opposite Prabhas, while Deepika has moved on to her next major project with director Atlee and Allu Arjun.

The debate continues, reflecting broader conversations about work-life balance in Bollywood, especially for actors who have to balance demanding schedules and personal responsibilities.
