Doctors Alert of Increasing Deaths in Gaza due to blockage of food

Gaza: Children in Gaza are dying from severe malnutrition as hospital staff struggle to treat them. These tragedies unfolded in mid‑April 2025 at Al‑Aqsa Hospital, the main referral centre for central Gaza.

Outside Al‑Aqsa Hospital in Deir el‑Balah, grieving parents described watching their little ones waste away. Fadi Ahmed said his son, who arrived too weak to fight massive lung infections, died after a week of treatment. Intisar Hamdan held her grandson’s lifeless body, saying he went three days without milk before he perished in her arms

Doctors discovered that malnourished children often arrive with infections and dangerously low blood oxygen. Without enough fuel to power generators or ambulances, medics face hourly power cuts that interrupt life‑saving care and force many families to travel on foot for help.

The medical crisis stems from an Israeli closure of Gaza’s border crossings since early March, which has blocked all fuel, food and medicine deliveries. Al Jazeera’s Tareq Abu Azzoum reported that warehouses are empty and hospitals lack basic supplies—like infant formula, antibiotics and IV fluids—making even routine treatment impossible. Rescue vehicles may soon stop operating entirely without fresh fuel.

Families say they have nowhere to turn. With bakeries closed and shops empty, parents cannot find milk or protein‑rich foods for their children. Humanitarian agencies warn that prolonged hunger weakens young bodies, leading to infections, organ failure and death. Every day brings new stories of children who simply could not survive the shortages.

Gaza’s population of 2.4 million now faces what aid groups call the worst humanitarian catastrophe in the territory’s history. The blockade, imposed to pressure Hamas over hostages, has cut essential services and pushed emergency responders to the brink. Doctors and relief workers are calling for urgent international intervention to reopen crossings, deliver fuel and medical aid, and save the lives of Gaza’s most vulnerable.
