Rawalpindi: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, spoke to journalists outside Adiala Jail after meeting with former Prime Minister Imran Khan. He firmly stated that Imran Khan has made it clear he is not seeking any deal and has not authorized anyone to negotiate on his behalf in a manner that may give the impression of a compromise.
Gohar said that Khan emphasized his intention to face all legal cases against him according to the constitution and the law, and that he will pursue justice only through legal means. This clarification comes amidst growing speculation that backdoor dialogues are taking place.
The clarification follows a recent interview on private news channel Samaa TV, aired on April 10, where PTI Senator Azam Swati shared details of his meeting with Imran Khan in Adiala Jail. Swati claimed that he sought permission from Khan to initiate contact with the establishment, to which Khan allegedly responded, “Contact them for the sake of the country.” Swati further stated that dialogue had started and he was optimistic about it. He also quoted Khan as saying, “I promise I will not seek revenge because the country is sinking.”
When questioned about Swati’s remarks, PTI leader Salman Akram Raja clarified that Swati is making these efforts in his personal capacity. Raja reiterated that the party is committed to the supremacy of the constitution and law, and is against forced disappearances and the violation of fundamental rights. He stressed that PTI does not seek an “easy way out.”
He also criticized the jail administration for not allowing regular meetings between Khan and visitors, saying this creates ambiguity. Despite court orders, Imran Khan’s family members have not been granted visitation rights, prompting Advocate Niazullah Niazi to file a contempt of court petition.
Barrister Gohar further explained that according to court directives, Imran Khan’s family is allowed to meet him on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while political leadership can meet on Thursdays.
In a separate development, Gohar addressed matters related to the Mines and Minerals Act, stating that no progress can be made until KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the relevant political leadership meet with Imran Khan. Khan has reportedly said that he will only issue directives after consulting them.
Lastly, Imran Khan has instructed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to pass a resolution requesting the federal government to extend the deadline for the repatriation of Afghan refugees.
