Los Angeles: Colin Trevorrow, the acclaimed director behind the Jurassic World franchise, has explained why dinosaurs continue to fascinate audiences across generations.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Trevorrow discussed the enduring popularity of prehistoric creatures and how they remain central to one of Hollywood’s most successful film franchises. His latest project, Jurassic World Rebirth, will be released on July 2, 2025.
Trevorrow, who revived the franchise in 2015 and later returned for Jurassic World Dominion, believes dinosaurs hold a timeless appeal that transcends age and culture. “Every time a child is born, a new dinosaur fan is born,” he said.
He emphasized that the fascination is more than cinematic—it is a cultural phenomenon. From films and television to merchandise and theme parks, dinosaurs capture the imagination worldwide.
The director credited the franchise’s success to its expansive, immersive storytelling across multiple platforms. He highlighted the contributions of Netflix animated shows and global merchandising as key elements in maintaining fan engagement.
“We built something strong enough to move forward, and I’m very proud of that,” Trevorrow said.
Talking about Jurassic World Rebirth, Trevorrow noted that while the film takes a new creative direction, it remains rooted in the spirit of the original franchise. “It’s a step away, but it brings everything together comprehensively,” he explained.
He also spoke about treating dinosaurs as real animals rather than movie monsters, making their interaction with human cities more believable. This approach extends into the upcoming animated series Chaos Theory, which explores similar themes.
Trevorrow’s vision continues to evolve, but the core remains the same. Dinosaurs remain a symbol of awe, wonder, and storytelling magic that shows no signs of fading.
