Operations Continue Smoothly at Southern Tehran Oil Refinery Despite Nearby Fire

Tehran: Despite intensifying military tensions between Israel and Iran, operations at the Shahr Rey oil refinery in southern Tehran remain unaffected, according to Iran’s Student News Network (SNN). The clarification came after speculation surfaced online suggesting a direct Israeli strike had targeted the critical fuel infrastructure site.

SNN reported that while a fire had indeed broken out, it occurred at a fuel tank located outside the refinery premises and was not connected to the facility’s core operations. Officials emphasized that refinery activities were continuing normally, dismissing claims of significant disruption.

Earlier, Iran’s oil ministry had announced that a separate Israeli strike targeted the Shahran oil depot, also located in Tehran, sparking a fire. The ministry confirmed the blaze but stated that emergency response teams had quickly intervened and the situation was under control. It remains unclear whether both incidents are directly linked or part of coordinated strikes by Israeli forces.

The dual reports come amid a series of Israeli attacks on Iranian infrastructure following retaliatory missile launches from Tehran. As the situation escalates, vital economic and energy assets like refineries and depots have become potential flashpoints, prompting Iranian authorities to issue prompt reassurances to maintain public confidence.

While damage to strategic fuel sites poses a serious concern, Iranian officials continue to assert that operations at key refineries are stable, and emergency containment measures are in place to avoid further fallout. However, with military confrontations still active, concerns remain about the vulnerability of Iran’s energy infrastructure in the days ahead.
