Islamabad: The Pakistani government has deployed the military in Islamabad to restore order after violent clashes broke out during protests by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. The Ministry of Interior issued an official notification on Monday, invoking Article 245 of the Constitution, which allows the military to assist in maintaining public order in the capital. The notification also granted the army the authority to impose curfews if necessary.

The decision came after intense clashes during the PTI protests, where rioters attacked law enforcement personnel. On Srinagar Highway, a group of rioters drove a vehicle into a contingent of Rangers, killing four officers and injuring five others, as well as two police officers. Security sources have reported that the violence has claimed the lives of six security personnel, with over 100 police officers injured, many critically. As part of efforts to quell the unrest, the army has been stationed at key government buildings, including the Parliament House. The government has given clear instructions to law enforcement agencies to use force against anyone inciting violence. The situation remains tense as the military takes steps to restore peace in the city.
